What is teamwork?


Teamwork is when a group or society decides to create a collective effort to solve a problem. Teamwork can also be described as a set or group of people who dedicate themselves to accomplishing a task or certain work.

What does the Bible say about teamwork?

Teamwork was suggested by Jetro to Moses, after observing the hard work he had, when judging thousands of people daily (Ex. 18:13-27). But division of roles and group work is not just the Old Testament.

New Testament and Early Church history is written within the context of "community" (the Greek word koinonia , which today is popularly used to mean "small group fellowship", also has this meaning). In this group there are leaders and subordinates, but also standards, norms and discipline both for some and for others. Some examples: Jesus and the disciples; the group of 120 at Pentecost; Paul's missionary journeys always had their support group.

Why is teamwork important?

  1. Multiple Counselors (Proverbs 11:14, 15:22, 24:6). Decisions made as a team have a greater chance of being right.
  2. Multiplication of Spiritual Gifts (1 Cor. 12:12). With the expression of each one's gifts, the team will use the right people in the right places in order to achieve its objectives.
  3. Division of Labor (1 Cor. 12:25). We cannot let the pressures and tensions, only on top of some people. We must share the burdens, so as not to overwhelm some.
  4. Accountability. In teamwork, each element must account for what it is assigned to do. Their freedom of action is measured by the limits and disciplines required by the team. All must submit to evaluation.

Why is team prayer important?

There is nothing in Scripture to suggest that praying together with brothers and sisters is "more powerful" than individual prayers in moving the hand of God. Many Christians equate prayer with "getting things from God," and group prayer becomes primarily an occasion to recite a wish list. Biblical prayers, however, are multifaceted, encompassing the totality of the desire to enter into conscious, intimate communion with our holy, perfect, and righteous God. God, by inclining His ear to listen to His creatures, causes praise and worship to flow in abundance (Psalm 27:4; 63:1-8), produces sincere repentance and confession (Psalm 51; Luke 18:9-14), generates an outpouring of gratitude and thanksgiving (Philippians 4:6; Colossians 1:12) and creates heartfelt pleas for intercession on behalf of others (2 Thessalonians 1:11; 2:16).

Why? Does a leader (pastor, evangelist or missionary) need teamwork?

The ability to work as a team allows you to deliver better results and more efficiency. Teamwork is a fundamental skill for good leaders. Therefore, if leadership is in your career plan, you need to develop this capacity.

What is expected of a work team?

The secret of working together it is in the delegation of responsibilities and not tasks, where each professional, within their knowledge and capabilities, can masterfully develop the stage of the process assigned to them. And the conduction of this process must be carried out by a leader who sees not only the technical knowledge of the professionals, but who knows how to work on the skills and competences of each one.

How to strengthen teamwork?

The first step is to get to know the team
In this process of establishing a true connection with the team, the first step that the leader must take is to invest in knowing each member of his team in depth. That is because people were more focused on doing their job, without caring if the colleague next to them was in need of something or not.
