What is harassment?

Harassment

Harassment is all unwanted behavior, namely that based on a factor of discrimination, practiced when accessing employment or in employment itself, work or professional training, with the aim or effect of disturbing or embarrassing the person, affecting their dignity, or create an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or destabilizing environment.

How to identify Harassment?

  1. Moral Harassment
In the case of moral harassment, violence is against the dignity of the citizen who undergoes some kind of humiliation. Most cases of moral harassment happen in the work environment, in situations in which the employee is constantly exposed to humiliation by his bosses or even other employees.
  2. What is Verbal Harassment?
This type Harassment can happen in different contexts and can involve both close people and complete strangers. It is characterized by acts in which a person is called names, boos, ridicule, insults, teases or threats.
  3. What is Virtual Harassment?
As the name suggests, virtual harassment happens online and is practiced by individuals who use technology to offend, harass or harass a specific person or group. Threats, sexual or pejorative comments, disclosure of data or personal information and the propagation of hate speeches made on the internet fall under virtual harassment actions.
  4. What is Psychological harassment
This is one of the most veiled forms of harassment, as victims of psychological violence most often take time to realize that they are being abused and harassed. Psychological harassment can also occur in many ways and can manifest itself through offensive, persistent, insulting, abusive, intimidating behavior and even through abuse of power.

What does the Bible say about Harassment?

The Bible condemns sexual harassment. The Bible says that some 4,000 years ago, a mob of people who only thought about sex tried to rape two men who were visiting the city of Sodom. This explains why Jehovah destroyed that place (Genesis 19:4-13). Furthermore, the Law that Moses received some 3,500 years ago prohibited incest and sexual abuse of a family member Leviticus 18:6.

In the behavioral framework of cause and effect, the actions of harassers are the result of their life history or immediate circumstances. The Biblical view of man recognizes the existence of a religious and hermeneutical center, which interprets stories, environments and circumstances, giving them answers according to the lens used to "read" the inputs. Such men are not machines in a system, but people whose sinful hearts have chosen to react destructively to their condition and to the women around them.

Biblical Christianity does not condone such abuse, and provides true freedom and justice, announcing God's wonderful plan for men to be protectors, providers and shepherds of truly loved and cared for women. Those who stray from God's standard will face it on judgment day, when no excuse that "society made me this way" will stick.
