Choice Definition & Meaning?

Choices

  1. Act or effect of choosing
  2. Preference given to something found among others; predilection.

What does the Bible say about choices?

God has given us a decision-making power. Nobody is a puppet. We all have decision-making power over many things in our lives. We can even decide whether we want to love God or not!

Loving is a choice. God does not force anyone to love and follow Him, because it would not be sincere. It is possible to resist the Holy Spirit. But God is just. We choose what we are going to do but one day we will have to face God's judgment. We are responsible for our actions.

At the same time, God is not bound by the rules of time. He already knows all our decisions and has taken them into account. The decisions we make cannot frustrate God's plans.

God often plans or allows situations like testing to see what decisions we are going to make.

Exodus 32:26a He stood at the entrance to the camp, and said, Who is on the Lord's side? Come to me.
Deuteronomy 30:19 [Moses speaking:] I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse; therefore choose life, that you and your descendants may live.

1 Chronicles 29:17a I know, my God, that You search hearts, and that You are pleased with uprightness.
1 Kings 18:21 Elijah came near to all the people, and said, "How long will you go limping with two different opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him".

Romans 8:6-9a To be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 The mind of the flesh is enmity against God, for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. 8 Therefore, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. 9a But you are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if the Spirit of God dwells in you.
Galatians 6:8 He that sows to his flesh will reap corruption from the flesh; what sows in the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

Matthew 7:24,25 Therefore, whosoever heareth these words of mine, and doeth them, shall be like a wise man, who built his house upon a rock. 25 The rain came down, the rivers overflowed, the winds blew, and they blew against that house; yet it did not fall, because it was built on the rock.
